Customer Need
Two Fortune 500 customers needed a local manufacturing partner to help secure multi-billion dollar contracts in South Africa that required local content. Invited Rockit Motors to participate based on track record in the US in contracts worth a total of $200M for the production of AC induction motors, synchronous alternators and DC motors. The project required more than 75% local content and compliance with local ownership participation and benefits legislation.
Rockit Motors Solution
Moved into 75,000sf facility and invested $24M to:
- Set up greenfield manufacturing operation.
- Hire and train 150 skilled employees.
- Implement quality management systems and develop local and international supply chain.
- Mobilized 20 international “hell fighter” industry experts and Rockit Motors North America personnel for a year to support technology transfer.
- Implemented corporate structure, local minority ownership and systems to achieve legislative and localization compliance.
